As numerical data becomes a more important part of the investigative process, we as journalists need a thorough understanding of where to get it and what it means. Whether you're canvassing a data set for story ideas or smoking guns, Part I will develop your ability to clean data and process it enough to give up its secrets. This course is taught in Excel and will begin at a basic introductory level - no experience required.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Zoe Fraade-Blanar is an Interaction Designer and Data Artist. Her work has been used by outlets such as eBay, FINRA, The New York Times, The Hubble Space Telescope, The US Dept of Labor, The US Postal Service, and IBM.

This event is free for currently-enrolled NYU journalism students, faculty, and staff.
Alumni may attend for a $45 fee.

At New York University, we believe that journalism has a serious public mission, and can make a difference in the world. We want to educate those who agree. Opportunities abound in the media world, but the opportunity to do compelling work that informs, engages, and matters to the societies in which we live—this is what drives our faculty, motivates our students, and shapes our basic approach.
